It may be 70 degrees mid-March, but I know better. Here in Colorado, the snow still flies in May and there's plenty of wintry weather ahead. Here's a great weekend project that you can wear to the office on Monday.
Yarn: I used a lovely 110 yard skein of hand spun and hand dyed alpaca yarn I purchased a the local Alpaca Expo.
Now, I realize there may not be friendly alpaca herds in your neck of the woods.
I have 2 yarn suggestions: Plymouth Yarn Expression (55% wool, 45% acrylic) 2- 50g skeins, or 1 - 150g skein of Malabrigo Rasta (100% merino). Quite a bit more expensive, but also beautiful.
US size 15 needles
CO 17 stitches using cable cast on
Row 1: Slip first stitch as if to purl, bring yarn to the back and kfb next stitch. Knit stitches until 3 stitches remain on needle, then ssk the next two stitches, then knit the last stitch. 17 stitches
Row 2: Slip first stitch as if to purl, bring yarn to the back and knit all stitches.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until 18-26 inches of yarn remains, ending with row 1. BO loosely and weave in ends.
Increasing on one end while decreasing on the other side creates the bias effect which gives the scarf great drape. The simple garter stitch showcases the yarn's variegation. Slipping the first stitch creates a lovely chain up the sides.
You can adjust the number of stitches you CO and length to make this project your own!
Pretty! I like the bias pattern and the colors you chose for the scarf.
ReplyDeleteHello! I LOVED your idea of a vase full of the little yarn balls of leftover yarn! I am so going to do this very soon. I am also going to knit the child's poncho for my granddaughter. Thank you for sharing these great ideas. Blessings!
