In our house, we love handmade knitted washcloths. It's a great way to try out a new yarn, pattern or technique... a functional gauge swatch of sorts. Mitered squares are so cool. Only in knitting can you knit a triangle and end up with a square! This pattern is cute enough to give as a gift. It looks impressive to non-knitters. And there's nothing like garter stitch bumps to work up a good scrub. I can knit this up over a couple of days (days while taking care of the children). I'll show you how I used this washcloth as a part of a gift in a future post.
I used Sugar 'n Cream 100% cotton yarn in "yellow"
US size 10 needles
My finished size was approx. 9.5 inches square, you can adjust pattern for any desired finished size
Pattern:
CO 63 stitches (simple loop CO works well here)
Row 1: sl 1, k29, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k30
Row 2 (and all WS rows): sl 1, knit to center stitch, p1, knit to end of row
Row 3 (and all RS rows): sl 1, knit to center 3 stitches, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, knit to end of row
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until 1 stitch remains, fasten off and weave in end
