That's what my co-worker called this gift basket. Actually, I've done similar baskets 4 times now and it has always been appreciated. The mom-to-be says, "Oh, these are things I would never have thought of getting beforehand!"
And preventing that frantic 2 am run to the pharmacy is priceless.
Here's what I always include:
1. Infant Acetaminophen (Just recently infant acetaminophen changed and is no longer concentrated drops, so it is probably a better buy to get the "children's" liquid product).
2. Nasal Saline spray (If you get one meant for babies the tip is smaller)
3. "Little Noses" decongestant drops (0.125% Phenylephrine, you may have to ask for this one from behind the counter at the pharmacy, but it is an over-the-counter product)
4. Pedialyte Electrolyte Powder
5. Diaper Rash Cream
6. Vicks Baby Rub
7. Johnson & Johnson Vapor Bath (works nicely for adults with stuffy noses too)
8. Teething Gel
9. A travel pack of diaper wipes (so handy for the diaper bag or car, and I buy it because it is something tall for the back of the basket)
Can also include: Teething ring, nail clippers, baby comb, newborn or #1 diapers, thermometer, baby wash, lotion, other toiletry items on baby's registry.
What I don't include: nasal bulb syringe (you take one home with you from the hospital), ibuprofen (usually use after the baby is 6 months old).
The basket itself: If the mom-to-be registers for a diaper organizer or tub toy bin, these work great too. Otherwise, I try to find a basket that has potential to be useful in the baby's room while also being quite inexpensive.
Let me know if you do this! I love putting together this basket for my friends.
